The temperatures this week have been scorching HOT! Every day the thermometer climbs higher and higher, 109 being the highest temperature we've reached. With all this heat comes lightening and we've had two major fires start nearby recently.
The Dragoon Fire started on June 7th on the east side of the mountains. Another fire started on the same day on the west of the mountains and they merged on the 10th creating this massive smoke column! That fire has since been contained and put out, but only after it burned over 15,000 acres!
We could see the flames roaring on the mountain at night so Justin took a picture through the binoculars.
The Frye fire started to the north of us on the 7th as well. It is still raging and has burned more than 21,000 acres making it the largest wildfire currently in Arizona. (This picture was from the 15th, now there is so much smoke from the fire you can't even see that mountain range anymore.)
This is a picture of the sunset taken on Thursday night, you can see a little of the haze created by all the smoke.
